Southwick Real Estate Listing Prices over the Years


1868

Described as a fine farm, it comprised 110 acres about 3/4 mile from the Southwick train station and about 4 miles from Westfield. In addition to the land, the sale included a two-story house, carriage house, stock barn, shop, hog house, tobacco sheds, ice house, and a slaughterhouse complete with hide and meat rooms. The asking price and terms were $8,560, half cash.

1882

Real estate salesman George Kingsbury listed what he described as a beautiful farm in Southwick Center.

1887

A "beautiful home in the village of Southwick; cottage house in perfect order" was listed for sale by George W. Doane & Co. of Springfield for $1,500. The house sat on 2.5 acres of land with choice fruit and shade trees. 

A farmer listed his 33-acre property near the North Longyard schoolhouse for sale for $1,000. It included three acres of meadowland, pasturing for three cows, outbuildings, and a 1.5-story house containing seven rooms. The seller made mention of the "excellent grammar school" about 2 miles away in Southwick Center.


1908

Henry Delavergne listed a farm for sale. It included 100 acres, a large 11-room house, and three stock barns, fully equipped with farming tools and some stock. List price: $3,000. 


1910

"BEST BARGAIN OF THE SEASON" 

D. C. Peck & Sons Company of Plainville, Connecticut, offered a farm "Located near the fine country
village of Southwick, Mass.," for sale. The farm was 100 acres of "very choice land," including a fine, 14-room house in "perfect condition," stock and horse barns, two silos, and two tobacco barns. The buyer also got other items, including hens, two good horses with harnesses, tools, carriages, and wagons. Only 4 miles to Westfield. Price: $6,000 with reasonable terms. 


1913

The owner of a 30-acre farm offered it for sale for $6,000 - the part left on the mortgage. The purchase included a house, horse barn, stock barn, and tobacco barn. 


1921

A real estate broker listed twenty-eight acres (18 tillable, ten wood and pasture), with a tobacco barn (capable of holding two acres) and an eight-room house for $3,500. The property had berry bushes and apple, cherry, and pear trees. 


1938

Located on one acre on College Highway, a six-room house with running water was listed for $2,220. 


1943

An owner of a summer cottage on Congamond Lake listed it for $900. The one-room bungalow with a sleeping porch was offered fully furnished.

1954

A real estate broker listed a nine-room waterfront house in Congamond Heights for $9,900. The home had large plate glass windows, two fireplaces, a boat landing, a beach, two car garage, an insulated boat house (rowboat), and a large screened-in porch.  


1960

An expandable four-room Cape Cod-style home with a "roomy rumpus room" in the basement was listed for sale by its owner for $11,500. 

In comparison, a broker listed an old abandoned farmhouse on 50 acres in Tolland with an asking price of $5,500. The property had a long frontage, a brook, and a barn. 


1966

The owner of a waterfront house on Congamond advertised it as "Ideal for couple. Quiet and cute." The asking price was $11,900.  


1972

A spacious seven-room Garrison Colonial, within walking distance to Southwick Center, was listed at $25,900. It consisted of three bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, a laundry room, an eat-in kitchen, and a living room with a fireplace. 


1980

A real estate firm offered a stately ten-room Cape on 4.78 acres for $77,900. Located near Suffield, the property included a bunkhouse, a barn, and kennels. 


1989

A newly constructed three-bedroom, two-bath contemporary Ranch was listed for $193,000. The waterfront property included a private beach and dock area. 


1997

Coldwell Banker listed a waterfront property off Berkshire Avenue for $197,500—the saltbox Colonial home's address: 21 Island Way.


2000

A real estate brokerage listed a ten-acre horse farm for $230,000. They also advertised a 60-acre one for $420,000. 


2006

The owner of forty-one acres of farmland on Mort Vining Road listed the property with an asking price of $560,000. The property had 21 acres of forest and pond and 20 acres of agriculture, suitable for livestock and horses. It was advertised as having low taxes. 


2009

A large brokerage company advertised new homes in the gated Ranch Golf Club Estates starting at
$529,000.


2023

A four-bedroom, three-bath Farmhouse Colonial with a three-car garage on North Longyard Road was offered for sale at $642,900. The 2,875-square-foot home, built in 1998, sits on 6.69 acres on a hill. It has a private outdoor patio with a fireplace and a 30-foot waterfall. 

Farmland, woods, and wetlands making up 206.63 acres off North Longyard Road were listed for sale for $2,850,000. (56 & 56R North Longyard Road- sale pending at time of publication.)

A 1,631-square-foot home on 0.893 acres on Sheep Pasture Road was listed for $265,000. (Four bedroom, three bath)
